This is a story that I have had in my mind swirling around gathering information for quite a while. The idea actually came to me while I was attending Snow College and taking a creative writing class. I was going to use the character and the earliest of the ideas for some of the class assignments. Unfortunately and fortunately I didn't. I am glad though. This has been a long time coming and it may take a while to get it all down on paper. I hope you are all in for the long ride. :)
******************
There is a clearing in a forest. Through this clearing flows a shallow, calm river. In this river stands a man. This man holds the wrist of a small boy and chants a rehearsed prayer. As he finishes the prayer the man grabs the boy by the shoulders and pushes him under the water. The boy hears the screams of many people.
The boy wakes up. He is no longer the boy from the dream. He is Franklin Scott, twenty seven years old, medium height, slender build and dark wavy hair that is cut to a medium length. He is a plain looking man. His looks hide the simple fact that he is unique.
The vid-phone next to his bed almost rings. He picks it up.
“Hi mom.” He says to the slightly surprised woman on the other end.
“Franklin.” His mother says. “You could act surprised once in a while.”
“There is such things as ‘caller id’ Mom.”
“I know.” She says. “But caller id has a delay. You didn’t even let the phone ring this time.”
“Sorry, mom.” Franklin says. “Do you want me to hang up and let you call back again?”
She laughs. “No, you don’t have to do that. Do you know why I called?”
“No.” He lies.
“Thanks for the effort, but I can tell when you lie.”
He sighs. “You always could Mom. That’s the truth.”
“I know. I know.” She sighs again. “I’ll tell you anyway. You ready for today?”
“Yes mom.” He says with slight distain. “It’s just a job.”
“It’s not just a job, dear. You’re the first psychic that has become a detective in any police department on Terra.”
“I know, Mom. Psychic or not you don’t have to remind me of that.”
“You’re nervous.”
“No. No, I’m not nervous. I’m only going in for a final interview today. I don’t even start until next week. And the only reason I don’t start until next week is because they won’t be entirely sure of where to place me and who to place me with.”
“When did you find this out?” His mom says surprised.
“When I took my neural suppressor off last night.”
“You’re not supposed to take that off! You could get in some serious trouble if someone found out.”
“You’re not going to tell them.” Franklin says with confidence.
“Maybe I am.” She says with fear in her voice.
“No you won’t. I can tell.” He laughs. “I know that you won’t. You love me too much.”
“You’re right. Dang your abilities.”
“Mom, I don’t need my abilities to know that. I know you love me, but it’s because I love you in return that you couldn’t turn me in for a simple psychic law infringement.”
“You’re sweet… but reckless. Just be careful. I don’t want you losing this good thing.” She says.
Franklin sees himself pick up the phone again. He feels the shock of the conversation, but doesn’t hear the voice on the other end nor his own. He doesn’t know when the call will come, but it will come.
“Mom,” he says, trying with only slight success to hide his fear, “I got to go. I’ll call you after the interview.”
“Is everything okay?” She asks, seeing right through his attempt.
“Yeah, everything is totally fine.” He says and because it’s not a lie it comes out a lot better. Everything is fine, for now.

Anyway, hopes you do be liking.

Meal Time
OK, so this is from a game that the boys got from their Grandma and Grandpa Ohlen when they came to visit us a month or so ago. It's really easy to play and fun to just let loose and write something that you probably would think to write... or wouldn't write even if you did think it up. Just to explain a little, it's a deck of cards with different story elements on them (such as genre, settings, characters and objects) you pick cards at random and just write what comes to mind. Orion picked Sci-fi for the genre, the setting was a castle, and the characters were a fairy and a dragon. This is what came spewing out of my mind. Anyway, hope you enjoy it!
Near the center of the galaxy, in a cluster of stars, there was a planet. This planet was called Vios 5. On Vios 5 the six suns kept the planet in a continuous day. In fact, the citizens of Vios 5 didn’t even have a word for night… but they did, however, have thirty two different words for day and sixty five different words for hot. The citizens of Vios 5 were a curious bunch of people. They had developed very small, the majority of them being only a half a meter tall, and they flew with tiny wings because the ground was very very hot. The citizens of Vios 5, also called Viosions of the Fifth Planet, were also known as the Fairy’s of the Fifth Planet in the System of Vios.
Near the planet of Vios 5 was the planet of Vios 6 (unfortunately the beings that named the planets in the System of Vios had no imagination whatsoever.) Vios 6, being close to one of the six suns of the Vios System was even hotter than Vios 5… and even brighter… and full of fire and magma… and home of some very angry and mean beings called Viosions of the Sixth Planet. They were on average twelve feet tall, dark green and had huge wings that helped them avoid the magma that flowed in various different rivers on the surface of Vios 6. The various races of the Vios System called the citizens of Vios 6 the Dragons of the Sixth Planet… but never to their faces. Most of the beings in the Vios System didn’t say anything to the faces of the Viosions of the Sixth Planet, due to the fact that all of the Dragons were very badly tempered. (You would probably be bad tempered too if your planet was on fire and full of magma all the time.) The Dragons also lived in castles, because that’s what beings that are very bad tempered and big live in.
Anyway, enough of the people and places and on to the reason for this long winded explanation.
There was a Fairy from Vios 5 that was called Jumpawusit. Jumpawusit was extremely small for the Fairy’s (only six inches tall) and extremely courageous (which is an odd trait for a creature under three feet tall) and a boy (which is another odd trait for Fairy’s.)
Jumpawusit lived in a small tunnel, in a small village, on the plains of Vios 5 with his mother, Hopawusit.
One fine summer day (which is the only season on Vios 5) Jumpawusit sat down by the dry lake in the center of the plains of Vios 5 (which is the only type of lake on Vios 5.) A huge ball of smoke and fire fell from the sky and crashed near Jumpawusit’s village. Jumpawusit flew as fast as he could towards his village.
In the ball of fire and smoke was the space cruiser of the evil Dragon Mustup. He was a particularly angry and big Dragon and he had come to Vios 5 in hopes of trapping a Fairy so that he could make the citizens of Vios 5 very sad and upset (that was the favorite pass time of the majority of Dragon’s from Vios 6, making beings as miserable as they were.) Which is another trait worth mentioning of the Fairy’s of Vios 5, the fact that even though the surface of Vios 5 was extremely hot, the citizens were rather even tempered and didn’t mind that things were so hot all the time. This was probably due to the fact that their wings fluttered in such a way that kept their heads cool all the time and as you probably know it is extremely hard to become angry when you have a cool head.
At any rate, Mustup landed his space cruiser on the surface of Vios 5 and his cruiser thanked him for landing it somewhere other than Vios 6. He exited the vehicle with a hrmph and a puff of agitation and grabbed the first Fairy that he saw, which happened to be Hopawusit. She protested slightly, but not too much, as to not be a nuisance to Mustup. Then he clambered back on to his cruiser and immediately took off back home to Vios 6.
All the villagers that watched as Hopawusit was taken asked Mustup nicely to leave her there, but they thought he must not have heard them as he turned and left without saying a word. They also commented that his space cruiser was obviously in need of a tune up and if he would have stayed for lunch they could have suggested a couple really good mechanics on Vios 7 that could have taken care of that problem. (Vios 7 being the commercial Mecca of the Vios System. No one actually lived there, due to the absence of any residential zones, but workers instead commuted to Vios 7 on a daily basis. This made the commuter vehicle industry of Vios 7 one of the healthiest in the entire galaxy.)
Jumpawusit fluttered into the village and asked the villagers where his mother was. All of them answered in unison that his mother was taken by Mustup, the biggest and meanest Dragon they had ever seen, and probably wouldn’t be home for lunch. This worried Jumpawusit as he was going to prepare his mothers favorite ice cream for lunch. (Ice cream being the traditional meal of lunch time on Vios 5.)
Jumpawusit flew to his home, grabbed a bag lunch and took off fluttering towards Vios 6.
(Now, it is important to mention that Jumpawusit, being a Fairy of the Fifth Planet of the Vios System, took off through the atmosphere and emptiness of space without the aid of any heat shields or breathing apparatuses, all this due to the level headedness of every Fairy on Vios 5. Because the Fairy’s were so calm and level headed, they really didn’t mind the heat of pushing through the atmosphere and because they didn’t mind the heat, the heat didn’t mind them and therefore, never bothered them. The same went for the lack of oxygen… or any problem in the void of space. They didn’t mind the lack of breathable matter in space and therefore the lack of breathing didn’t mind them and left them alone.)
Jumpawusit flew through the void of space, stopping only once to have his bag lunch on a comet coursing through the Vios System (he commented how cold the comet was, but also quickly mentioned that being cold was a nice sensation that he had never felt before and was a good change of pace and how much he didn’t mind it, so the cold left him alone) and directly on to Vios 6. He flew around the surface for a while until he found the biggest castle. He figured that this would be the home of Mustup since he was the biggest and meanest Dragon the other Fairy’s had ever seen and that meant he would have the biggest and scariest castle… which was true.
He flew up to the front door and knocked. Mustup heard the tiny knock and went, angrily, to answer the door. He did so angrily for two reasons; 1) he had just arrived home having realized that he had nothing to keep Hopawusit in and had to stop off on Vios 7 to get a Fairy cage, some Fairy food and a Fairy play toy to hang from the top of the cage and really did not want any visitors at the moment and 2) that the person was knocking so softly that he wasn’t even sure that it was a knock and was therefore getting anger just in case there was no one at the door and he had walked all that way for no reason whatsoever.
“What,” Mustup yelled loudly, as he opened the door, “do you want?!?!”
“I’m so sorry to disturb you, Sir.” Jumpawusit said calmly. “I am Jumpawusit from Vios 5 and I believe that you brought my mother, Hopawusit, here. I was wondering if I could get her and take her home?”
Mustup, being terribly big and mean, was taken off guard by this small Fairy talking to him in a calm and level headed manner. “Well,” he stuttered, “no… you can’t just have her back. What are you going to do for me?”
“I don’t have much to give, Sir. Although, I can’t help, but assume that you just got home from a long trip since you are holding a bag from the Greatest Interplanetary Pet Shop on Vios 7 and I was wondering if you had time to get lunch during your trip?”
“Actually,” Mustup grumbled. “I didn’t. But what’s it to you?”
“Well,” Jumpawusit said, letting himself in,” I, like most of my people, love to cook meals for our friends. Since I introduced myself to you, I only need to know your name and we will be friends and I can make you an extravagant meal.”
This was a new idea to Mustup as no other creature or being had ever attempted to become friends with a Dragon of Vios 6. “I don’t know.” Mustup whispered. “Do you promise not to tell anyone else that we are friends?”
“If that is what you wish. I don’t mind.”
“Mustup… my name is Mustup and I am the biggest and meanest Dragon on Vios 6.”
“It is a pleasure to meet you, Mustup.” Jumpawusit said happily. “Now, where is your kitchen?”
Mustup lead Jumpawusit to his kitchen and then tromped off to his dining room to wait for the meal that Jumpawusit was going to prepare.
Jumpawusit prepared the most spectacular Fairy meal for Mustup to feast on. As Mustup ate the meal, he became happy (although he didn’t show it) and wished and hoped that Jumpawusit would stay and make him another meal. After staling Jumpawusit and Hopawusit’s departure for some time, he finally got the courage to ask Jumpawusit to make him another meal.
“I was wondering,” Mustup mumbled, “if you could make me another meal some time?”
“Of course I can!” Jumpawusit said happily. “I can come back anytime and make you a meal.”
“Come back tomorrow!” Mustup yelled. He meant to say it happily, but since he had never been happy in his life his brain was confused and used the mood that it was used to, which was anger.
Jumpawusit and Hopawusit came back the next day and made Mustup breakfast, lunch and dinner for a very very long time. In fact this was the beginning of the treaty of Vios 5 and 6. Since the Dragon’s never knew of any species beforehand that didn’t mind them, it was nice to have the Fairy’s around. Also, since the Fairy’s didn’t mind the Dragon’s, the Dragon’s didn’t mind them. They never did tell anyone, even each other, that any of them were friends with the Fairy’s.

Where We Dead Dogs Lie
This is the first part of a story I'm doing for an English class-
They called me Christian Corrode once. I remember that.
But names don't matter when you're dead. The names disappear. I would say that names rot like the rest of you does... but it's not quite the same. It's like they fade away, like water dripping down a glass pane. And then the water all pools at the floor, and becomes one thing.
We are one being. We are one mind. Or rather, one mindless weapon. A massive mass.
But every once and awhile, when there are no whispered orders being given, nor any of that hunger to sate... every once and awhile I can almost remember what it was like to have wind caress the tangles of my hair, I can remember being content, I can remember being an individual. I remember having a name that was my own. And a woman's voice, caressing even softer than that wind.
That was before the nerves collapsed, and before my eyes rotted, and before my memories devoured themselves.
Sometimes I wish I could see.
The desire, the hope, rises up through layers of stagnant thought and hungry needs, and surfaces. I wish I could see.
I've heard them say that the moon is red now. I heard them talking when on duty, but when I'm alone and when I'm resting and when there is something of being an individual there, then I realize that those strange sounds have meaning, that it is actually a language.... and that they mean what they said; the moon is red. Rumors fly about concerning its origin- that the day the military openly turned was the night that the moon turned red... or that there is so much bloodshed on the earth that it has stained the very sky itself.
They say it with fear. Or disgust. They say it as if the red moon is a thing of evil.
But I always loved red. I remember that.
I bet it's beautiful.
They're calling us now. Stiff, dead limbs start jerking like an army of clockwork toys coming to life. But, maybe that's all we are, after all... My thoughts from a moment before seep back into the forgotten edges of my mind- because when my body is not stagnant, my mind becomes so. Individual thoughts are unnecessary. And I am no longer myself, but become a part of the 'ourself'.
We are one being. We are one weapon. We will feast. And we will follow those whispering orders.
And once... we were Christian.
(Just a story from my new zombie character point of view.)

Breath of Fire: Of Dragons and Fairies.
Chapter 2: Part 1: The Newbie
“A ray of hope, the truth of power. It sees through the darkness, but shadows reign...”
Kaiser stood up as his mother walked towards him, he looked at her and noticed he now came to about her elbow, and if he stood up straight, which he didn’t like to do, he came about to her shoulder. He had been kneeling next to a group of eggs, each one a little smaller than he was. When she got next to him Kaiser leaned up and butted her on the shoulder with the top of his head. He wasn’t worried about hurting her because even though she looked smooth and breakable, she actually wasn’t.
Kaiser had once tried to sneak up on her, he wasn’t as strong as Eldritch was but he was far faster. Her back was to him and he had jumped at her with all his strength, but at the last moment his mother held up her hand behind her and Kaiser ran straight into it. For a moment he thought he had somehow missed and ran chest first into the side of a mountain, it was then that Kaiser realized why Ladon never seemed overly worried about protecting her. After stopping Kaiser mid-jump she pinned him to the ground and tickled him till he couldn’t breathe.
Kaiser now bumped her in question to the eggs, for they were not his mothers. Kaiser’s mother had given birth many times after Kaiser and Eldritch were born, though it was never the same, for with each birth the children gained less and less of mothers genetic structure. These eggs had come from another female dragon, and technically she and Kaiser were brother and sister, though since they had not come from the same litter they were closer in blood relation to cousins, (Though most dragons still refer to Kaiser as their big or older brother). The dragon and her mate were both mature and full grown; the male was only slightly smaller than Ladon. Kaiser was older than them and all his “siblings” save Eldritch, who like him was still a whelp. Kaiser and Eldritch’s growth was slower only because their bodies were more complex and took longer to develop. Kaiser’s mother took his head in her hands and kissed him on the nose, she then laid a hand on the nearest egg and closed her eyes and smiled at the warm touch. Kaiser was still confused about a mother besides his own but he knew from her reaction that it was okay and in fact something very good.
Eldritch came out from the woods then and approached the group of eggs cautiously, and after he was next to mother he nudged her on the shoulder much the way Kaiser himself had just done. Their mother just put her hand on Eldritch’s head and then looked back at the eggs, this encouraged Eldritch to walk up to an egg and place his forehead on it. After a few seconds he looked up, whelped, and walked away with a smile on his face to where he had last seen Ladon. Kaiser contented himself to curl up next to one of the eggs and stare at the faint glow of heat and listen to the chorus of tiny heartbeats coming from the eggs. After some time Kaiser started to doze off and once again his mother took him into her lap and hummed to him. Right before he drifted to sleep he heard his mother make a series of sounds, he was confused by them for he had never heard a spoken word before, so he repeated the strange sounds back as he fell asleep: “I love you.”
. . . . . . . . . . .
Nina was lost and nervous, she didn’t exactly know where she was and noone around seemed to care enough to stop and ask if she needed help. She would like to have claimed that she was a typical runaway princess… however in her case it was a little different. You see most of the time princesses have the simple common sense to run away and get captured by something not far from their castle, that way whoever comes to save them doesn’t have to spend an entire lifetime trying to find them… Not Nina though, she decided she would run away, well actually fly away, to the nearest space station and then proceed to travel to another planet.
Nina is a Wyndian princess, from the planet Wyndia of course, she stands at about 6 feet tall, her hair is short and straight though a few strands on the front of her hair long so that they fall over the front of her face and end in a little curl. She wears a long and beautifully striking, yet inexpensive, dress that is a specially made to have the strength to deflect axe blows by itself, and the last most defining feature on Nina are the two large beautifully white and fluffy (yet strong) wings protruding from her back. These wings are not for decoration however and are fully functional, allowing her to fly and glide. When the wings are brought to a full extension to her sides Nina’s wing span is about 20 feet long, 10 for each wing, but usually they remain curled up behind her and are about as long as she is tall.
I would like to report that there is some unusual and strange circumstance that brought our stray princess here but alas it is not so. Nina, like most princesses of her culture, had arranged marriages, and that wouldn’t have been so bad if the person you are arranged to marry is cute, fit, intelligent and good person, but no, she was going to marry the cliché whinny brat of a prince who’s too fat to make his own stupid sandwiches and too stupid to do anything besides eat sandwiches. Nina is the exact opposite of that; she is intelligent and very perceptive, she is very healthy and physically fit for she was actually captain of one of the Wyndian special forces. Nina excels in combined swordplay and spell casting, though she is good at the two separate of course, Unlike Fenraes the fairy, Nina does not naturally control magic but most rely on the use of spells (in the form of words) and her own force of will to subjugate the elements to do what she wants, this makes it very difficult, and very effective, to fight and cast at the same time.
Nina had planet jumped till she had got here, for she had heard of this planet as being a central of diverse people and work, so she had aimed to come here to blend in and find a job since she had no money that was of any worth here. She had wandered for a couple of hours looking for anything she might be good at but as of yet had been unable to find anything, she wasn’t nervous (yet) about finding a place to sleep since it was very early morning in the city where she had arrived, but mostly she was nervous about the many people and… things… that were bustling about. There were things that were human, things that looked human, things that looked half human, things that didn’t look anything like human and things that didn’t want to look human. She had found herself on the side of the street away from the crowd to think up a game plan for what she might do and how she might survive. She wasn’t worried about surviving for she had been on many adventures to many lands and helped many strange people but she didn’t like being absolutely clueless about everything. She wanted first to find out what currency they used there because she was sure that what she had with her at the moment was useless, so she decided to follow the crowd and see if she could learn anything as she was walking. After about five minutes of following the endless throng she was startled as a man with large gorilla like forearms on a bicycle cut her off by swerving and stopping right in front of her, he wore a funny blue uniform the was too tight for his own good and a funny little blue hat on his head,
“Nina Wyndia?” he asked without looking up as he rummaged through a large brown sack.
“Um… yes?” Nina answered hesitantly while she moved her hand to her Rose Rapier strapped to the side of her waist. The strange gorilla armed man handed her an envelope then tipped his hat and pedaled on down the street, as he was riding away Nina noticed “mailman” printed on the back of his uniform, she also noticed every once in a while he would stop in front of random people and hand them packages of different sizes.
Nina looked at the letter and saw her named elegantly written on the front with no other markings on the letter whatsoever, strange as it was she was curious as to who would know she is here and how they knew where to find her. She opened the letter to the same beautiful handwriting that was on the envelope, and the letter said this:
Dearest Nina,
You do not know me but that is not important, my name is Pandora. I own a mansion/ apartment complex on the large hill north of town… Which I am sure you can see from where you are standing.
Nina looked up from the letter and sure enough on the large hill away from the busy streets of the city was a mansion or house, though she couldn’t judge the size because of the distance. She continued reading:
I invite you to stay at my mansion for as long as you like, since you have no home here on this planet and are of royalty I could do no less than offer to share my home with you. There is no cost and no obligation and of course you may turn this offer down if you like however I would be honored to have you there. My only request is that you treat the grounds and property with respect.
Yours truly,
V.R. Pandora.
Nina was very confused at a great many things, most of all how Pandora knew she would be able to see the mansion from where she was standing… However not letting it worry her anymore Nina decided to check it out, she needed a place to stay and at the very least she could refuse later if she didn’t like it. Stepping away from the crowd Nina spread her powerful wings and with one swooping down-stroke heaved herself into the air and away from the city, amongst the clouds she soared at an easy pace towards the mansion.
The wind rushed past Kaiser’s face for a brief moment before he landed on the ground with a light thud, he looked up to the top floor from where he had jumped and chuckled to himself a little. He headed to the couch where he had seen Enof and now noticed that Thetz was there too talking to her twin brother. Both Thetz and Enof were human though they were from a different planet than earth, Thetz had a very kind and motherly disposition on life but she was not weak in any way, when Kaiser had arrived on their planet Thetz had been acting Commander of the planets military force, plus Thetz and Enof are both renowned warriors. Kaiser walked over and sat next to Enof.
“Kaiser” Enof greeted without looking from his book,
“Hey” Kaiser answered with a smile, for he had been expecting no grandiose greeting from Enof, Thetz on the other hand had no fear of light conversation.
“Kaiser don’t we have a new person coming to the mansion today?” she asked as she peeled an apple.
“Yeah, and I got a letter from Pandora that says I’m the one who’s supposed to show her around…” He held up the letter to Thetz to show the fancy writing the belonged to Pandora, Thetz reached over and Kaiser handed it to her.
“Hmm… it’s says you can refuse if you want…” stated Thetz,
“Yeah… But, I don’t exactly have any other pressing matters to attend to so I figured I might as well meet the newbie.”
“Hmm… mind if I join you?” asked Thetz as she gave the letter back.
“Not at all,” Kaiser replied. “It’ll be nice to have some familiar company,” Kaiser looked at the clock and then got up and headed toward the door, for from the time written on the letter, the new guest would be arriving any minute.

Concerning the Chambius
This is the beginning of my epic... my masterpiece, if you want to call it that. I have been thinking about this for a while. It's conception happened in high school while in English Lit. I wrote a story about a cyborg that had been programmed to be a soldier in an army and had set himself free. At the time I didn't realize it, but this was the beginning of the Chambius Saga. So anyway, enough of the explanations, let's get to the nitty gritty.
What is the Chambius?
First and foremost, the Chambius is a Dyson Sphere. For those of you who don't know what a Dyson Sphere is... go to wikipedia! :) In a nut shell a Dyson Sphere is a collection of satellites in orbit around a star that collect that star's energy for use on a planet nearby. Dr. Dyson believed that the best way to look for extraterrestrial lifeforms (I can't believe I spelled that right on the first attempt!) was to look for stars that had been dimmed due to these collections of satellites. His thought was that a vastly advanced race would need all the energy it could muster and that collecting solar energy from a nearby star would be the easiest way to do that. ANYWAY!!! On with the next part.
The Altakans
The Altakans are the ones that made the Chambius Array. They did so to prevent their home world from dying. Unfortunately it was too late and they had to think of something else to do before their planets ecosystem collapsed. So they decided to take ten of the thousands of solar arrays of the Chambius and make them into "bio-arrays" capable of sustaining life indefinitely. They did that, moved a vast majority of their people to the Chambius and waited for the planet to heal itself. After thousands of years of waiting they finally had the opportunity to move back and a lot of them did. Some did stay and grouped on one bio-array they had dubbed Alt-Polen (or Our Second Home.) Both societies kept in constant communications with one another for another thousand years until one day the Chambius lost contact with the home planet. They sent several unmanned probes to the planet, but never could figure out what happened before they lost contact with the probes. So the Alt-Polen Altakans went on with their lives for many generations after.
This is all I am going to divulge at this time.
Until next time.
Bot out.

Breath of Fire: Of Dragons and Fairies.
Chapter One: Dragon in Human Form.
“Time turns but the pain remains, the dragon tries but tries in vain...”
There was darkness everywhere and nothing made sense, everything was hazy and clouded … the darkness was black as ink and darker than death. There was no sound or light just a dull ache. Then a flash came, and with it a loud crack, it illuminated everything and pushed the darkness back to reveal a planet that was torn and breaking even further. Pain came then and after it grief, sorrow and finally rage. Words sounded in the dark, “I love you”. More pain… and then, laughter… but unlike the words, the laughter brought back the rage and the madness. Another flash of light and explosive crack, then the planet, growing ever smaller, was now in a hundred pieces. He roared, letting his anger spill out into the soundless void of space.
Another crash, but that of breaking glass, came from the world around him; it felt like another time and place. Muffled and irritated voices were heard and a silenced yelp woke him from his nightmares, but he lay in bed calming his racing heart and listened to the commotion in his room.
“BUT IT’S MINE!” yelled Fenraes, a small fairy, as she came crashing through the closed yet unlocked door. The fairy, as you might expect, was small, but not as small as you would think. If she could ever stand still long enough to show you, she would be about the size of your forearm, from your elbow to your outstretched fingers. She had long brown hair, the color of fresh plowed earth, smooth as a flat stone and with a slight curl to it. Her hair was long… well for her race at least, it went down almost to her hips, about six inches in length and was tied in a pony tail, she was quite proud of her long hair. She was just the right amount of skinny, for she loved to eat, however she was not close to being fat, and she disliked the taste of meat… she weighed about 7 pounds. She wore a very non- “traditional fairy” outfit, for you would think she would wear leaves or grass… but no, she wore a vest with a miniscule shirt underneath and long pants with a miniaturized skirt over them. They were colored browns and greens with gold highlights around the edges, she said it reminded her of home when the sun came up. On her hands and feet were gloves and boots, respectively placed of course, though she had been known to switch them from time to time. On her boots, gloves, shoulders and in the middle of her chest were gems, the gems on her shoulders connected to the gem on her chest by small golden chains. The gems looked white in light and black in dark, and when she moved the gems changed to every color that man can see… and even some they can’t. Her ears were long, about the size of half your pinky finger and they heard what she wanted them to hear and nothing else. Her eyes were just the right size; they were deep… deep and brown, like milk chocolate had been turned into a shiny metal then placed into her eyes. She had a playful demeanor, even while sad, scared or sorrowful, she was always playful. Unless she was in a battle or otherwise serious situation she was very hyperactive. But there were some things that she never got bored of, like flowers… and donuts, and also her friend Kaiser. She liked Kaiser, he was quiet, but not serious, just quiet and thoughtful; he liked to joke with Fen. In fact it was into Kaiser’s room that she crashed into… and she had a donut in her hand… actually it was in both of her hands because of her size. Mmm, donuts…. Kaiser and donuts, two of her favorite things in one room; today was going to be a good day. But there was something important… ah yes, she was being chased, she couldn’t figure out why though. The donut was hers, it didn’t matter if this person was holding the donut in their hand and about to take a bite out of it… she had wanted it, so she took it.
As she rammed the door opened she looked around for a place to hide, the door continued its uninterrupted course until it was rudely interrupted by the wall. The door hit the wall with a bang and knocked down a picture that was hanging on said rude wall. Fen startled at the noise and, once again forgetting her “being pursued” state of being, she fluttered down to the picture lying on the floor and looked at the people in the picture. In her head she thought of their names, there was friend-happy-Kaiser in the middle with a big smile on his face; he was laughing. To the left of him were friend-joyful-Thetz; she too was laughing, and friend-funny-Niloc; he was red in the face but quite obviously laughing. Perched on top of Kaiser’s head she saw herself-Fenraes; she never stopped laughing. And last on the right was friend-serious-Enof; … He was not laughing.
Startling her from her thoughts was a large man, for every man was large to Fen, who came skidding to a stop right outside the door. He had the angry look of someone who had just had their donut stolen from them would have. Fen took one look at his face and did what was natural; she called up vines through the floor board to wrap up his legs. How, you may ask, did she do this? Well then I ask you: How do you move your fingers or legs? How do you see or digest? You just do, so how do fairies control nature… they just do, and in fact, that’s exactly what she did. The vines came up through the floor board and twisted around his leg up to his knee at unnatural speed, thus locking him in place and making him unable to come closer to Fen. Fen jump flew up to Kaiser’s desk where she set the donut down and proceeded to stick her tongue out at the man at the door… Now that she got a good look at him she didn’t actually know who he was… however by the way he yelled at her she got the idea that this might not have been the first time she had pilfered his donut. Seeing he could not move, the nameless man took out a slingshot and, with inhuman speed, fired three shots at Fen. With a yelp of surprise, fen threw an energy shield in front of herself. If you had the eyes of a fairy you would have noticed that the energy barrier she put up was the exact same color and intensity of the life force of the nature around her, it was multicolored to match the different auras of reds, browns, greens, and blues that the trees, grass and wind all have. And much like the aura of nature; Fen’s energy projections (for she could also make a fairy blade as well) were always changing color and shifting and bending the light in strange yet beautiful ways. The steel balls careened at Fen but luckily she got her barrier up in time, and as each one hit the shield it flew off in a random direction; one decided to hit the monitor of Kaiser’s computer and send it crashing to the ground. The next felt like the window might be a fun place to fly and it went straight through, with the cliché and extremely loud sound of breaking glass. The last ball was nicer though and thought to just hit the wall with a thud so as not to be of any trouble. Fen dropped her shield and looked around at the destruction of Kaiser’s room and was quite scared, and it looked like the slingshot man also had a look of “oh crap, oh crap, let’s get the heck out of here” on his face. Kaiser yawned and stretched, and that’s when Fen panicked, she grabbed the donut and flew out of the room as quickly as she could, pausing only briefly to untie the man from his viney entrapment. The man shook loose the vines and closed the door with a loud slamming bang.
Kaiser chuckled to himself and ran his hand through his hair as he got up and sat on the edge of his bed, he then shook his head and slapped his face to dispel the last remnants of his recurring nightmare. This nightmare memory was one he had been having for as long as he could remember, though it didn’t come every night for he was usually very diligent in not recalling memories of his home world. But today was different, not really wanting to but not resisting he revisited some of the memories of himself when he was young.
Kaiser looked up at his mother, she was very pretty and always wore a flowing white dress, she had long hair that was also remarkably white and as long and free flowing as her dress. Her eyes were a beautiful light purple, just like his brother’s eyes, whereas Kaiser’s eyes where the deep sapphire blue that his father had. His mother didn’t look like Kaiser though, she had long arms and legs that were pale and smooth, she didn’t have scales like Kaiser and his brother Eldritch had. Father had scales though; his were a metallic silvery blue, lighter in shade though from his eyes. Father was also considerably larger than Mother almost ten times her size, and he had wings whereas Mother did not. He also had sharp teeth and mother had sort of flat teeth. She didn’t have claws or a tail or spines or spikes anywhere; in fact she didn’t look anything like Kaiser or Eldritch at all. Sometimes Kaiser had seen his Father become small and smooth like his Mother, but usually he chose to stay in his birth form. Kaiser’s mother (though he didn’t know it at the time) looked like we might think of as a human, though she was far more noble and majestic, as well as more powerful than any human could ever be. She was one of those beings that time and space themselves bowed down to. His mother picked Kaiser up and spun him around while laughing, when she laid him down on the ground he came about to her knee. His teeth and claws were not sharp yet, and they wouldn’t be for a long time. In truth he was a short chubby little dragon with stubby horns and a huge grin on his face. Kaiser looked around for his brother Eldy, Eldritch was some yards away stalking a grasshopper patiently, and Kaiser watched and watched and watched as Eldy just sat there waiting, waiting for the perfect time to pounce. Kaiser grew bored of the waiting and ran over as fast as his little chubby legs could take him and dove at the grasshopper, which seeing Kaiser’s waddling run, easily jumped out of the way. Kaiser giggled as he saw Eldy’s annoyed face, so he decided to pounce on him too. The two brothers wrestled and laughed at each other as they tried to bite each other’s knobby little horns with stubby little teeth while kicking each other with chubby little legs. Kaiser actually had other brothers and sisters, but none were alive. As was common for a litter of dragon pups, seven or eight would be born at once while only two or three would survive. Kaiser looked around again as Eldy ran off looking for the escaped grasshopper, he saw his father, Ladon, though he never called his father by his name. Laying down Ladon was as tall as the trees that surrounded the meadow they were in. Ladon had his head rested on the ground and watched Kaiser with his large penetrating blue eyes, his breathing was long and slow, taking several minutes to inhale and then several to exhale. Kaiser saw his mother kneeling beside his father with her hand on his neck and a gentle smile on her face. Ladon smiled and blew at Kaiser, the resulting gust of wind knocked Kaiser over and rolling back a few feet, Kaiser whelped with glee and waddled toward his father, and with much effort and struggle succeeded in climbing up his father’s lip and onto his head which was about three times the size of Kaiser. Kaiser wrestled with his father’s long sharp horns until he felt tired and dozed off on his father’s head, the last thing he could remember was his mother cradling him in her arms and humming quietly to him as he fell back to sleep.
Kaiser snapped out of his reminiscence and got up to get ready for the new day. He smiled to himself as he remembered what he was like as a pup. Kaiser threw on a plain white shirt and changed out of his shorts and into a pair of long loose black pants, after that he put on his breastplate and over that his long black sleeveless vest. And last he donned his gauntlets, shin guards and shoes. He looked at himself in the full length mirror, he was not a huge man but neither was he small, he stood at about six feet five inches tall. He had white blonde hair, though not nearly as white as his mother’s hair. He was strong and defined from years of practice and battle, yet even after so many years the sight of his bright blue eyes still surprised him because they looked so much like his fathers. He took one look back at the wreckage in his room and shrugged deciding he’d worry about it later; he stopped only to pick the picture up of the floor and place it on his desk before he left the room. Kaiser’s room was on the top floor of “Pandora’s Mansion”, a large ten level building that housed hundreds of beings, some were human, though most were not. After closing his door he leaned on the railing outside his room and looked down all the way to the bottom floor. He could see many of the buildings occupants around the huge living room, in one corner he saw Enof leaning back on the couch by himself reading a book. He also saw Fen zigzagging here and there with a donut in her hand, though as far as he could see, she was no longer being pursued. Kaiser looked around and laughed at the layout of the building, for it was rather strange. The building resembled a giant shopping mall in the way it looked, there was the bottom floor which had no rooms on it, and it was just a huge open area with four “pits” one in each corner of the room. Each pit had a huge flat screen T.V. and three large sofas that could sit about eight people on each one. In one end of the room were the front doors, and on the other end was entrance to the ginormous kitchen that lay in the back. On each side of the front doors were a set of stairs that went all the way up to the top floor, the rooms started on the second floor and wound all the way around the building, sometimes there were walkways spanning over the open area of each level and connecting the two sides. On the wall opposite Kaiser’s room, in between the two far pits on the ground floor was an elevator. Starting on the third floor and going up to the sixth floor on the side above the kitchen doors was an extended balcony type protrusion, it extended about a third of the way into the open space in the middle of the building and was completely covered in plants. Three story tall trees surrounded this indoor natural haven and even a small waterfall spilled in between two of the large trees and over the edge down to where it magically disappeared around the second level. That was where Fen lived, as well as many of the other habitants of Pandora’s Mansion who were more accustomed to the safety of nature versus a walled in room.
Today would be a rather different day, for he had received a letter from Pandora (He had yet to actually meet her), the letter said that a new person would be arriving at the mansion this morning and that he should give her a tour of the grounds so she could get used to it. The letter also said that she was a “Wyndian Princess,” though he had no idea where Wyndia was. Kaiser yawned on last time and looked over the edge to see that no one was in his way, he liked living on the top floor for one reason in particular: he smirked as he placed one foot on the railing and vaulted over the edge.
A Request in Post Form
Since I was going to post a... post... to formally request a change in the name of this blog, but that is already taken care of... I am going to post a request to the several artists that frequent this blog. If you have the time or desire I was wondering if you could do a quick sketch of the King of Rain.
That is all.
