OK, so this is from a game that the boys got from their Grandma and Grandpa Ohlen when they came to visit us a month or so ago. It's really easy to play and fun to just let loose and write something that you probably would think to write... or wouldn't write even if you did think it up. Just to explain a little, it's a deck of cards with different story elements on them (such as genre, settings, characters and objects) you pick cards at random and just write what comes to mind. Orion picked Sci-fi for the genre, the setting was a castle, and the characters were a fairy and a dragon. This is what came spewing out of my mind. Anyway, hope you enjoy it!
Near the center of the galaxy, in a cluster of stars, there was a planet. This planet was called Vios 5. On Vios 5 the six suns kept the planet in a continuous day. In fact, the citizens of Vios 5 didn’t even have a word for night… but they did, however, have thirty two different words for day and sixty five different words for hot. The citizens of Vios 5 were a curious bunch of people. They had developed very small, the majority of them being only a half a meter tall, and they flew with tiny wings because the ground was very very hot. The citizens of Vios 5, also called Viosions of the Fifth Planet, were also known as the Fairy’s of the Fifth Planet in the System of Vios.
Near the planet of Vios 5 was the planet of Vios 6 (unfortunately the beings that named the planets in the System of Vios had no imagination whatsoever.) Vios 6, being close to one of the six suns of the Vios System was even hotter than Vios 5… and even brighter… and full of fire and magma… and home of some very angry and mean beings called Viosions of the Sixth Planet. They were on average twelve feet tall, dark green and had huge wings that helped them avoid the magma that flowed in various different rivers on the surface of Vios 6. The various races of the Vios System called the citizens of Vios 6 the Dragons of the Sixth Planet… but never to their faces. Most of the beings in the Vios System didn’t say anything to the faces of the Viosions of the Sixth Planet, due to the fact that all of the Dragons were very badly tempered. (You would probably be bad tempered too if your planet was on fire and full of magma all the time.) The Dragons also lived in castles, because that’s what beings that are very bad tempered and big live in.
Anyway, enough of the people and places and on to the reason for this long winded explanation.
There was a Fairy from Vios 5 that was called Jumpawusit. Jumpawusit was extremely small for the Fairy’s (only six inches tall) and extremely courageous (which is an odd trait for a creature under three feet tall) and a boy (which is another odd trait for Fairy’s.)
Jumpawusit lived in a small tunnel, in a small village, on the plains of Vios 5 with his mother, Hopawusit.
One fine summer day (which is the only season on Vios 5) Jumpawusit sat down by the dry lake in the center of the plains of Vios 5 (which is the only type of lake on Vios 5.) A huge ball of smoke and fire fell from the sky and crashed near Jumpawusit’s village. Jumpawusit flew as fast as he could towards his village.
In the ball of fire and smoke was the space cruiser of the evil Dragon Mustup. He was a particularly angry and big Dragon and he had come to Vios 5 in hopes of trapping a Fairy so that he could make the citizens of Vios 5 very sad and upset (that was the favorite pass time of the majority of Dragon’s from Vios 6, making beings as miserable as they were.) Which is another trait worth mentioning of the Fairy’s of Vios 5, the fact that even though the surface of Vios 5 was extremely hot, the citizens were rather even tempered and didn’t mind that things were so hot all the time. This was probably due to the fact that their wings fluttered in such a way that kept their heads cool all the time and as you probably know it is extremely hard to become angry when you have a cool head.
At any rate, Mustup landed his space cruiser on the surface of Vios 5 and his cruiser thanked him for landing it somewhere other than Vios 6. He exited the vehicle with a hrmph and a puff of agitation and grabbed the first Fairy that he saw, which happened to be Hopawusit. She protested slightly, but not too much, as to not be a nuisance to Mustup. Then he clambered back on to his cruiser and immediately took off back home to Vios 6.
All the villagers that watched as Hopawusit was taken asked Mustup nicely to leave her there, but they thought he must not have heard them as he turned and left without saying a word. They also commented that his space cruiser was obviously in need of a tune up and if he would have stayed for lunch they could have suggested a couple really good mechanics on Vios 7 that could have taken care of that problem. (Vios 7 being the commercial Mecca of the Vios System. No one actually lived there, due to the absence of any residential zones, but workers instead commuted to Vios 7 on a daily basis. This made the commuter vehicle industry of Vios 7 one of the healthiest in the entire galaxy.)
Jumpawusit fluttered into the village and asked the villagers where his mother was. All of them answered in unison that his mother was taken by Mustup, the biggest and meanest Dragon they had ever seen, and probably wouldn’t be home for lunch. This worried Jumpawusit as he was going to prepare his mothers favorite ice cream for lunch. (Ice cream being the traditional meal of lunch time on Vios 5.)
Jumpawusit flew to his home, grabbed a bag lunch and took off fluttering towards Vios 6.
(Now, it is important to mention that Jumpawusit, being a Fairy of the Fifth Planet of the Vios System, took off through the atmosphere and emptiness of space without the aid of any heat shields or breathing apparatuses, all this due to the level headedness of every Fairy on Vios 5. Because the Fairy’s were so calm and level headed, they really didn’t mind the heat of pushing through the atmosphere and because they didn’t mind the heat, the heat didn’t mind them and therefore, never bothered them. The same went for the lack of oxygen… or any problem in the void of space. They didn’t mind the lack of breathable matter in space and therefore the lack of breathing didn’t mind them and left them alone.)
Jumpawusit flew through the void of space, stopping only once to have his bag lunch on a comet coursing through the Vios System (he commented how cold the comet was, but also quickly mentioned that being cold was a nice sensation that he had never felt before and was a good change of pace and how much he didn’t mind it, so the cold left him alone) and directly on to Vios 6. He flew around the surface for a while until he found the biggest castle. He figured that this would be the home of Mustup since he was the biggest and meanest Dragon the other Fairy’s had ever seen and that meant he would have the biggest and scariest castle… which was true.
He flew up to the front door and knocked. Mustup heard the tiny knock and went, angrily, to answer the door. He did so angrily for two reasons; 1) he had just arrived home having realized that he had nothing to keep Hopawusit in and had to stop off on Vios 7 to get a Fairy cage, some Fairy food and a Fairy play toy to hang from the top of the cage and really did not want any visitors at the moment and 2) that the person was knocking so softly that he wasn’t even sure that it was a knock and was therefore getting anger just in case there was no one at the door and he had walked all that way for no reason whatsoever.
“What,” Mustup yelled loudly, as he opened the door, “do you want?!?!”
“I’m so sorry to disturb you, Sir.” Jumpawusit said calmly. “I am Jumpawusit from Vios 5 and I believe that you brought my mother, Hopawusit, here. I was wondering if I could get her and take her home?”
Mustup, being terribly big and mean, was taken off guard by this small Fairy talking to him in a calm and level headed manner. “Well,” he stuttered, “no… you can’t just have her back. What are you going to do for me?”
“I don’t have much to give, Sir. Although, I can’t help, but assume that you just got home from a long trip since you are holding a bag from the Greatest Interplanetary Pet Shop on Vios 7 and I was wondering if you had time to get lunch during your trip?”
“Actually,” Mustup grumbled. “I didn’t. But what’s it to you?”
“Well,” Jumpawusit said, letting himself in,” I, like most of my people, love to cook meals for our friends. Since I introduced myself to you, I only need to know your name and we will be friends and I can make you an extravagant meal.”
This was a new idea to Mustup as no other creature or being had ever attempted to become friends with a Dragon of Vios 6. “I don’t know.” Mustup whispered. “Do you promise not to tell anyone else that we are friends?”
“If that is what you wish. I don’t mind.”
“Mustup… my name is Mustup and I am the biggest and meanest Dragon on Vios 6.”
“It is a pleasure to meet you, Mustup.” Jumpawusit said happily. “Now, where is your kitchen?”
Mustup lead Jumpawusit to his kitchen and then tromped off to his dining room to wait for the meal that Jumpawusit was going to prepare.
Jumpawusit prepared the most spectacular Fairy meal for Mustup to feast on. As Mustup ate the meal, he became happy (although he didn’t show it) and wished and hoped that Jumpawusit would stay and make him another meal. After staling Jumpawusit and Hopawusit’s departure for some time, he finally got the courage to ask Jumpawusit to make him another meal.
“I was wondering,” Mustup mumbled, “if you could make me another meal some time?”
“Of course I can!” Jumpawusit said happily. “I can come back anytime and make you a meal.”
“Come back tomorrow!” Mustup yelled. He meant to say it happily, but since he had never been happy in his life his brain was confused and used the mood that it was used to, which was anger.
Jumpawusit and Hopawusit came back the next day and made Mustup breakfast, lunch and dinner for a very very long time. In fact this was the beginning of the treaty of Vios 5 and 6. Since the Dragon’s never knew of any species beforehand that didn’t mind them, it was nice to have the Fairy’s around. Also, since the Fairy’s didn’t mind the Dragon’s, the Dragon’s didn’t mind them. They never did tell anyone, even each other, that any of them were friends with the Fairy’s.
